It's just so much fun to play, even though I know next to nothing about playing the mando, be it the regular kind or the octave kind. Mandolins are one of our most popular instruments here at Eagle Music. But at home? Where none of that stuff matters? I always go back to the Eastman. Also, it came to me in a hardshell case, and it's guitar-shaped, so it's an easy transition live.
But if i play live, I play a Pono OM because it has a K&K pure mini pickup. So the strings are still tuned to the same notes. This particular Octave Mando (OM from now on) I love to play at home. What is an octave mandolin you may ask Its essentially just a bigger mandolin tuned a whole octave lower. I've owned a ton of Eastman guitars/mandolins over the years, all of them were stellar. Oh, I also own a jazz box of theirs, and AR 371 as I recall, that was modded with a SD P90 pickup by the previous owner. All Eastman Guitars and Mandolins are built in our workshops in Beijing by our expert team of luthiers and crafts people. Thirdly, I love that Eastman! I own a bunch of their offerings - a parlor guitar, an OM guitar that is fantastic, that octave mandolin and a mandola that arrived today and already stole my heart. Ha!
